We have this beautiful 1978 paperback edition of Lord of the Rings in our Fantasy & Speculative Fiction collection.
Both the character Gollum and the ring feature in our Forbidden Forest of Fiction, symbolising the powerful legacy JRR Tolkien created in his Lord of the Rings trilogy. Set in the fictional realm of Middle-earth, the story began as a sequel to his 1937 children's book The Hobbit but developed into a much larger work. He was encouraged by his close friend C.S. Lewis, whose work is also featured in our collection. The two Oxford authors met regularly to discuss their work as part of a writers' circle known as the 'Inklings'.
